Remark

[*] Changing screen brightness & external monitor worked w/out issue on a Tumbleweed build from 12/04/17 but I reinstalled using a build circa 1/22/18 & couldn't influence the brightness settings by any means at all, despite a day of trying. No external monitor support either. Under /sys/class/backlight I saw only an empty directory & any config files I'd been suggested to put in /usr/share/X11/xorg.conf.d didn't work -- they actually caused errors & prevented X server from starting, so I had to remove them again using the Ctrl+Alt+F1 terminal to get any gui at all. Pretty sure my laptop is a 7567. WORKAROUND: Installing nvidia drivers by the method given at https://en.opensuse.org/SDB:NVIDIA_drivers has restored brightness controls (w/ hotkey functionality) and external monitor support, though the latter is a little buggy (sometimes windows get stuck off screen, changing things has caused a couple freezes, sometimes I have to press the hotkey several times to cycle through to a mode that allows both screens to be on & get out of it being stuck as a unified duplicate display) -user nsmcs

[**] Set NVMe SSD to AHCI in BIOS. Dual-boot not possible due to Dell OEM Windows 10 with NVMe SSD in Intel RST RAID mode for Intel Rapid Restore. Suspend to RAM causes system reboot with Dell logo BIOS screen at wake-up with BIOS 1.2.1 - update to 1.6.0. The rfkill key works with an upstream patch, reported as SUSE bug 1123784, update released. Fingerprint reader ELAN 0c01 requires libfprint >= 0.8.3 (see: https://github.com/iafilatov/libfprint).

(10) Suspend to RAM with "-f -p -m".
(*) Media key mute did not work. Possible fix: select 'Front' instead of 'PCM' as the main channel by right-clicking on KMix.

11.0:
General note: installation very good, most hardware and features supported out of the box. (6) Dell Wireless card is a Broadcom BCM4310 USB Controller (rev 01) (/sbin/lspci). Downloaded Broadcom Linux Native driver (64bit) from | Broadcom supposed to work with BCM4311,12,21,22, but also works with BCM4310. There is a bug though: on ssh-connecting to/from another computer, login works, but no shell.
(*) Mouse: select PS/2 mouse with Yast, otherwise default is way too slow, unusable.

11.2:
General note: installation very good, most hardware and features supported out of the box. (6) Broadcom BCM4310 wireless card (see above) sort of works with broadcom-wl and broadcom-wl-kmp-desktop (64bit) downloaded from Packman repository. Remember to blacklist ssb and b43 modules (which do not work) before installing broadcom-wl. (11) Suspend to disk also OK, but a bit slow.

Icon-checked.png Contact Smart Card reader - works with installed pcsc-lite, pcsc-ccid, perl-pcsc, openct, opensc.

In /usr/lib/udev/rules.d/60-openct.rules you must also manually add lines:

# Broadcom 5880
ATTR{idVendor}=="0A5C", ATTR{idProduct}=="5801", MODE="0660", GROUP="scard", TAG+="systemd", ENV{SYSTEMD_WANTS}="openct-handler@usb:$env{ID_VENDOR_ID}-$env{ID_MODEL_ID}-$env{ID_REVISION}\x20usb\x20-dev-bus-usb-$env{BUSNUM}-$env{DEVNUM}.service"

Start pcscd service/deamon and try use pcsc_scan (from pcsc-tools) or cardpeek for testing.

In /etc/openct.conf you must find section

driver ccid {
...
}

and inside it manually add line :

usb:0a5c/5801,  # Broadcom 5880 Smartcard/UPEK Reader

Icon-checked.png Contactless Smart Card reader - works after disabling "CV Only Radio Mode" and enabling "Normal Radio Mode" for this device in "MS Windows".

To do this, you must run "MS Windows" operating system, install "Dell ControlVault Driver", also it is recommended to install "Dell ControlVault Firmware Update" and update Broadcom firmware. Then you can find utility called "ushradiomode.exe" (for 32-bit) or "ushradiomode64.exe" (for 64-bit system) in "C:\Program Files\Broadcom Corporation\Broadcom USH Host Components\CV\bin\". Open command prompt (cmd.exe) by going Start -> Run -> cmd.exe or by going Start -> All Programs -> Accessories -> Command Prompt.

Execute for 32-bit system:

"C:\Program Files\Broadcom Corporation\Broadcom USH Host Components\CV\bin\ushradiomode.exe" -n

Execute for 64-bit system:

"C:\Program Files\Broadcom Corporation\Broadcom USH Host Components\CV\bin\ushradiomode64.exe" -n

After reboot into Linux, you will see, that there are one more interface for 0a5c:5801, namely iInterface 6 Contactless SmartCard

lsusb -d 0a5c:5801 -v

Now Contactless Smart Card reader works with the same CCID stuf as Contact Smart Card reader.

Fingerprint reader, Contact and Contactless Smart Card reader are discovered as one device 0a5c:5801 "Broadcom Corp. BCM5880 Secure Applications Processor with fingerprint swipe sensor".
