Emerson Liebert

Model SuSE versions Interface Monitoring software Comments
PowerSure PSA1000MT
[6]
10.2 (x86_64) serial RS232 DB-9

(actually USB to serial PL-2303, Prolific, [7], kernel module usbserial, my MBO Asus AT8 has no native serial connections, and, sadly, their staff weren't able to point out this solution to me; local store did, Croatia, HGSpot)
- network monitoring through RS-232 attached box
- USB (so called contact closure, local monitoring, not tested)

MultiLink 1.5 (build 51)
[8]
- Propietary software for monitoring/shutting more devices at extra cost. Already expensive as it is. See if it's worhth it. May be. My first contact for now...
GXT2-3000RT230
[9]
12.3 (x86_64) serial RS232 DB-9 (on board) NUT (Network UPS Tools) - 2.6.5 [10]

Using:
- Web page monitoring on Apache
- KNutClient [11]

No proprietary software

Belkin

BU306000me (aka "Active Battery Back Up").

Probably applies to BU304000me and BU308000me as well.

11.0 (x86) USB (vers 1.10)

Internally a serial to usb Cypress Semiconductor converter.

- It comes with a CD with WinPower software for windows, Mac, Solaris, FreeBSD... and linux software (60 MB, java). Not tested.

- Works with nut-classic 2.2.2 almost out of the box (oss repo).

nut works with this in ups.conf - the delay is crucial:
 maxstartdelay = 70
 [myups]
   driver = megatec_usb
   port = auto
   desc = "Local UPS"

The driver takes 59" to start :-(

Cyberpower

Model SuSE versions Interface Monitoring software Comments
Cyberpower 1500VARLCD 11.2 (x86_64), 11.3 (x86_64) Only USB tested Power Panel - Proprietary software seems to work fine. NUT did not immediately recognize it. Documentation is fine, but the management is all CLI

MGE/Eaton

MGE/Eaton uninterruptible power supply (UPS) units work well with openSUSE 12.1 using the GPL NUT software, but this is not an out-of-the-box experience. For full details of a setup which provides automatic stop on power failure and automatic restart on power return, suitable for a small server, see [12].
