About this guy

ask Google :)

Brief *NIXoid history

first steps

  • Linux

Started his Linux life on Fedora Core 1 once upon a time. Turned away from Linux quickly then due to missing GPU support (F... NVidia... ;)). Reintroduced to Linux by a fellow student in 2010. After messing with Ubuntu, quickly went over to Gentoo. Took a look a several other (main) distros. Kept running Gentoo on his desktop PC and added Arch Linux and Debian to his laptops later on. Still favors Gentoo the most, followed by Arch and not much else.

  • BSD

Also got in touch with BSD, first GhostBSD and still uses it. Had his geeky time with OpenBSD. Loves the BSDnow weekly podcast. Runs two servers on FreeBSD at DigitalOcean and FreeNAS at home. Loves them.

  • OS X

Doesn't like it. Seems bloated and unusable to him.

  • embedded

Doesn't like iOS either. Has a bunch of devices on Android, OpenWrt and other smallish distros, all custom builds. Some Debian stuff. Started developing for Android in 2014 with big thanks to Adam Porter, Doug Schmidt and Jules White. Kudos to you guys! :)

meeting openSUSE

First installed openSUSE during his distro-try-out time. Wasn't very much satisfied then. Got a new laptop a week before oSC14 and gave openSUSE another try. Removed YaST, branding and a lot of other stuff. Switched to Tumbleweed as recommended by a fellow student (hi User:AdaLovelace ;)). Added a bunch of other repos besides Packman to set up his environment. Still running openSUSE now. Became too messy. Built pacman, set up an Arch Linux chroot, and went back to Arch and contributing to AUR. Put openSUSE on his mother's Thinkpad though. Will post to the wiki every now and then sometimes. Keeps attending oSC. We'll see! ;)
