SDB Talk:Using fingerprint authentication

This page does not help with Tumbleweed on Gnome. I have installed fprintd but what to do next is unclear. Now, the fingerprint works only for unlocking the screen. It would be nice to have the option to set it to the sudo and for accessing the privileged settings or GUI programs with root access.

Fingerprint authentication problems in KDE

Please advise if this not an appropriate spot to post the following (I am not real good with social media).

I have just updated my Tumbleweed to Plasma 6 and I thought I would make another attempt at the procedure for finger scans on KDE set out in "Using fingerprint authentication". My laptop is a 2023 LG 17. The fingerprint scanner appears to be "Bus 003 Device 003: ID 27c6:6a94 Shenzhen Goodix Technology Co.,Ltd. Goodix USB2.0 MISC"

1. I enrolled fingerprints using the User tab in settings. (I did not use 'fprintd-enroll'. I did check with 'fprintd-list' and my fingerprint was there). 2. I ensured that fprintd and fprintd-pam were installed. I ran the command sudo pam-config --update --fprintd. That did not do it. 3. I then modified /etc/pam.d/kde and /etc/pam.d/sddm as specified in the directions (and copied them to /usr/lib/pam.d/ 4. After rebooting: -- I was able to use my fingerprint to log-in, but if and only if I also entered a password: this is not what I wanted. I was hoping the fingerprint *replaced* my password. -- Once logged on I was never able to use my fingerprint as a replacement for my password in the terminal for commands beginning with 'sudo'. This is where I was hoping to replace password with finger scan. I fiddle with my installation a whole lot and it seems I am *always* using sudo.

I would like to know if anyone has been able to use finger scans to run 'sudo'. Thanks!
