Installing drivers and set up a Brother HL-2040
Requirements
- The Common Unix Printing System (CUPS) is installed (usually installed by default)
- You need to install RPMs downloaded from Brother's website
- You are using a USB connection to your printer
Installation
Step 1
Allow your printer to be detected and download the driver software:
- Plug in your printer and make sure it is turned on.
- Download brhl2040lpr-2.0.1-1.i386.rpm from Brother's website e.g. from http://www.brother.com/cgi-bin/agreement/agreement.cgi?dlfile=http://solutions.brother.com/Library/sol/printer/linux/rpmfiles/lpr_others/brhl2040lpr-2.0.1-1.i386.rpm&lang=English_lpr
- Download cupswrapperHL2040-2.0.1-1.i386.rpm from Brother's website e.g. from http://www.brother.com/cgi-bin/agreement/agreement.cgi?dlfile=http://solutions.brother.com/Library/sol/printer/linux/rpmfiles/cups_wrapper/cupswrapperHL2040-2.0.1-1.i386.rpm&lang=English_gpl
Step 2
Install and configure the drivers:
Warning: You must do this in this order!
- Right click brhl2040lpr-2.0.1-1.i386.rpm and select Open with Install Software
- Enter root password and proceed with the installation
- Right click cupswrapperHL2040-2.0.1-1.i386.rpm and select Open with Install Software
- Enter root password and proceed with the installation
- Launch YaST and click Hardware > Printers to set up a print queue, see YaST Printer
