Cockpit System Management. Useful resources for users and developers.

What is Cockpit?

From basic system overview, over storage management to keeping your system up to date, Cockpit enables you to perform a number of administration tasks in a convenient way through a browser based web UI. It is a classical 1-1 management utility with decent features to manage multiple servers but with no automation. It is an active upstream project where SUSE collaborates with its community.

Where is it?

You'll find Cockpit on recent Tumbleweed as well as Leap 15.6, where it can be used in parallel to YaST. It's also on Leap Micro and MicroOS. It is already part of the commercial offering SUSE Linux Enterprise Micro and is planned for the next generation SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 16 as well.

User Documentation

There is upstream maintained documentation while SUSE maintains documentation as well but focused on SLE Micro. This however is very close to MicroOS so it's applicable to openSUSE as well.

Where's the code and how to contribute?

Upstream code is hosted on GitHub, see Contributing to get started. We have created a Cockpit Tutorial to help you write your first application.
