When do you get a cloak?

It turns out that when you become a member, you receive an e-mail redirect but not the cloak, for which you have to wait an undefined amount of time. I would like to say something to that effect on the page but I do not want to spoil the impression, so I am not sure how to do it. --Yecril71pl 10:31, 14 February 2012 (MST)

Unfortunately setting up the cloak isn't automated. Please mail admin@opensuse.org to get your cloak set up. (And sorry for the very late answer ;-) --Cboltz (talk) 12:32, 4 January 2019 (UTC)

Is IRC usage a requirement for membership?

It is not clear from the description whether using IRC is a requirement for membership. The "hint" can be understood to mean "if you want to receive an openSUSE IRC cloak for your IRC nick as part of our membership you need to ...". Jowagner (talk) 09:20, 4 January 2019 (UTC)

You don't have to use IRC - your "if you ..." interpretion is correct. --Cboltz (talk) 12:32, 4 January 2019 (UTC)

Do IRC nick and openSUSE username have to match?

The instructions don't mention entering one's registered freenode IRC nick in the wiki profile or the Novell/microfocus profile. Is it assumed that the nick matches the loginname or are cloaks in a form that the receiving member can apply it to any nick? Jowagner (talk) 09:20, 4 January 2019 (UTC)

When you apply for membership, you can (have to, if you want a cloak) enter your IRC nickname on connect.opensuse.org. Your IRC nickname can differ from your openSUSE loginname. --Cboltz (talk) 12:32, 4 January 2019 (UTC)

Break the background section to smaller chunks or even a new dedicated page in the same portal

I find it hard to read myself, it's the first thing you see when visiting the page, and I think many will just take a glance and move on to the more "important part".

This is not a question more like a note that I plan to get back to in the future unless someone does first
