The most annoying bugs and their suggested workarounds:

openSUSE 12.1 RC 2

  • kexec or Xorg failing after install (Bug #726653) - workaround: just press Ctrl-Alt-Delete to reboot
  • No network setup after initial boot (Bug #726823) - workaround: reboot system
  • md devices might not appear proper (Bug #724912)
  • Owners of Thinkpad E520 need to blacklist module acer-wmi, otherwise wireless is soft blocked (kernel error)

openSUSE 12.1 RC 1

  • Package Manager during installation crashes yast (Bug #725722 = [1]) - workaround: accept default software install
  • Systemd skips start of dbus if there are cycles (Bug #725951))

openSUSE 12.1 Beta

  • graphical installation often fails due to the X server segfaulting taking down the installer with it (Bug #723777) - workaround: press F3 in bootloader and select Text Mode
  • 32-bit-CD installation btrfs error: btrfs file system prevents booting (Bug #722192 fixed in RC2)

openSUSE 12.1 Milestone 5

  • Optical drives immediately close again on media eject (Bug #659153)
  • Nvidia cards require nomodeset to boot, Nouveau driver failing (Bug #707110)
  • KDE NetworkManager problems (fix is in queue) - As a work-around, install the NetworkManager-gnome package.
  • NET install asks to import openSUSE key (Bug #698284)

openSUSE 12.1 Milestone 4

  • openSUSE-12.1 Milestone 4 was available as a 'zypper dup' from Milestone-3 and so the same bug list applies

openSUSE 12.1 Milestone 3

  • both LiveCD-i686 variants do not boot from USB (Bug #703673)
  • KDE NetworkManager (plasmoid) applet sees no network devices - (Bug #702461). As a work-around, install the NetworkManager-gnome package.
  • hostname missing in /etc/hosts - causes XFCE to error (Bug #705953)
  • Reports on forum of Nvidia cards requiring nomodeset to boot, Nouveau driver failing (Bug #707110) Comment#6 and #8 of that bug report provide guidance for rpm(s) that can be installed that may permit Nouveau driver to load

openSUSE 12.1 Milestone 2

  • On reboot using KDE Leave menu had dim screen KDE useless - in log kdm[30026]: Cannot execute 'grub-set-default': not in $PATH (Bug #702220)

openSUSE 12.1 Milestone 1

  • KDE Login is broken (Bug #687781) - workaround: select "KDE Plasma Workspace" as session type
  • btrfs option does not work
