Introduction

Hi. I am Chuck Payne, a.k.a. TerrorPUP, an Open Source Advocate for nearly twenty years and an openSUSE user since S.u.S.E 5.3 in 1998. I am from Dacula, Georgia, a small town north of Atlanta. I have worked as a Linux Engineer for over 27 years, currently working for a world health agency as IT Specialist for our Institute labs. I also help teach and mentor my team on Linux.

I am dyslexic, but that hasn't stopped me from being an ESL teacher in Japan for close to four years. I can speak basic Japanese and a bit of Russian.

Contributions

  • Joined the openSUSE Project as an Ambassador in 2008 and continue to be an advocate for openSUSE.
  • Created the YaST Fan Page on Facebook.
  • Am one of the administrators on the Facebook group.
  • Wrote three articles for Linux Identity Magazine.
  • Created a poster (with the help of Carlos Ribeiro) that was published in Linux Format UK.
  • Run a YouTube channel showcasing Small Board Computers and openSUSE.

Conferences

  • Attended SCalE with a team of great openSUSE Ambassadors, where I taught classes demonstrating that openSUSE is a great Linux distribution. I also had the pleasure of meeting a young man, Drew Adams, who I encouraged to become an Ambassador, and he has been a great asset to openSUSE and SCalE.
  • Attended Atlanta Linux Fest.
  • Attended Southeast Linux Fest, not only as an Ambassador but also by helping out so much that they asked me to become a Community Manager, which I did for close to six years.
  • Represented openSUSE at the National School Board Association Annual Conference, showcasing openSUSE Education, a fantastic distribution for schools.

Why vote for me?

I saw a lack of participation in this year election, which saddened me. I love openSUSE and continue to advocate for it. I know to many I have been quiet, but I am still very much active. I have run for office many times and lost, but that hasn't stopped my desire to contribute. So with that, I step up to run again. I may not be the youngest member, but I am young at heart and will continue to help until I can no longer do so. I am committed to giving openSUSE and the board 120% to ensure our success. I understand the importance of being a team member and a team leader. I will use my experience to help lead, guide, and mentor.

I am proud to be a member of the openSUSE community. I reach across distributions and help out. I work with Armbian, Ubuntu, and Fedora/Red Hat. I believe that when Linux wins, we all win. Many in the Open Source community know me as TerrorPUP. They know I will jump in and help.
