User talk:Qantas94heavy
Hello, Qantas94heavy! You deleted the per-repo commands for each Packman repo. You also removed the repo name in your `zypper ar` example. Some users want to know how to add both the repo name and the alias, and these two things can be different. There is a reason this wiki page was set up as such: to make it simple for users to copy and paste the command for each corresponding repo from the browser window into the terminal. The edits you made require more steps which not only presumes that a new Linux user magically knows what text goes inbetween <url> in `zypper ar --refresh <url> packman`, but you also took away perfectly good examples of how to add a repo. The more examples of how to add a repo the better, and having a "command per repo" shows the user exactly how the command varies dependent on which repo they are wishing to add.
Another user from #opensuse-factory and myself already worked on this page and it was fine the way it was. Users in #suse on IRC are complaining about this wiki page, saying it's complicated. If you want to delete the instructions on adding repos to openSUSE versions which are "done", that is welcomed. I had a talk in #suse regarding your edits, and the consensus was that reverting this wiki page to the previous version made the most sense.
Hi again! Thanks for the message, and thank you for your help in making the wiki better. I was a bit afraid someone blindly went into the wiki and started making changes, but on second look I think your changes actually make more sense and I reviewed some of the other pages you edited. I think it's clear that you are improving the wiki. I reverted the revert I made yesterday, made some grammatical corrections and added some more info to improve the overall readability of the Additional Repositories wiki page. I think it would be a good idea to include one full example of how to add a repo, in case a user doesn't understand what text goes inbetween <url> in the `zypper ar --refresh <url> packman` example. I can do this later, or you can add it if you want.
"Do you think the name and the alias should be differentiated so that it's clear they're different things? Perhaps also expanding the command flags (i.e. "--refresh" instead of "-f") would make it more clear what it's there for."
I think the shorter the better, so imo "-f" is better. We could link to the zypper wiki page explaining how to use zypper and its options, and add info to that page if needed. People going to the Additional Repositories wiki page are either already familiarized with zypper or are just quickly looking to add a repo. So whatever is easiest on the eye makes the most sense to me.
My apologies for any confusion.
