Portal:KDE/Default applications
Here there are listed the default applications under KDE for openSUSE. If the user didn't change them (probably meaning a ~/.local/share/applications/mimeapps.list file exists) these apps should always be the default ones. Installing a new app should never change this list. Every change should always be because the user explicitly selected it (it's ok that an app asks the user at the first start).
Any situation where the default application changes without the user explicitly changing it can be considered a bug.
Notice the default application is by-MIME type, not by extension. The way the MIME type of a file is identified is non trivial, and can be dependent of both the extension and the contents. It's enough to say that you can use "xdg-mime query filetype <file>" under KDE to know which MIME type the system thinks the file is. It's an unrelated problem, but also report any case where the MIME type of a file is miss-identified.
Audio
Amarok is the default audio application. Still, some special audio formats (e.g. Playstation music data dumps) can be opened by other applications. Report such cases in the mailing list.

If Gwenview supports an image format, it should be the default application. RAW image formats are a known exception.

Ark is the default application for archive formats. But it doesn't supports the less common ones (e.g. ACE, ARJ, CPIO, XZ). Patches to improve Ark to support new formats are welcome.
