For the server?

I was unable to find an openSUSE distribution for a server I am trying to build. All distributions offered for download are desktop distributions, and once you select a graphic desktop, you are unable to remove it from the installation set.

So, what is in a server?

  • No graphic desktop.
  • Rich server environment, fully customizable:
    • the SSH daemon on by default,
    • LAMP preinstalled and preconfigured with HTTPS on,
    • default init level 3,
    • assorted servers you might need,
    • an opportunity to install virtual machines,
    • an option to select another kernel.

The installation screen should be server-centric, not desktop-centric as it is now.

Is the desktop kernel the best one for a server?

Source DVD

The following link is mentioned on the shipped media to get a DVD with the complete source-code for 11.3. "www.novell.com/products/suselinux/source_code.html"

This link redirects to http://en.opensuse.org/Portal:Distribution

Thus we need to make sure, that we advertise the source DVD here. Thanks.

Roadmap

I would add a link to the actual roadmap here. Also, for this particular release coming up, I would mention WHY exactly we don't name it 11.5 or 12.0 but 12.1.

Thanks
