HCL:PolarFire

PolarFire is a family of SoCs made by Microchip. They all feature an FPGA fabric and usually 4 U54 Risc-V cores.

The original, amply featured development board is called the Icicle. It features Microchip's own FlashPro JTAG and programming interface on board, as well as both eMMC and an SD card socket, dual gigabit ethernet, Raspberry Pi compatible GPIO, MikroBUS and a PCIe x16 connector.

A leaner variant is available from BeagleBoard.org, called the BeagleV-Fire. It has a single ethernet connector and a socket for BeagleBone capes. And in case of bricking, you will have to bring your own JTAG-based programmer.

Especially the PolarFire boot loader requires some special care to work with the Hart Software Services, HSS, which is done in an openSUSE contrib project
