SuSE Linux 7.1 was released Wednesday, January 24, 2001. It was the first release to include YaST2 for installed systems, the first to have KDE 2 (which was a radical change for KDE) and the last to use the 2.2 release of the Linux kernel by default. SuSE Linux 7.1 was preceeded by SuSE Linux 7.0 and succeeded by SuSE Linux 7.2. It reached its End of Lifetime on May 15, 2003. SuSE Linux 7.1 is still available online by an FTP install. The Live Evaluation disc as been removed from the FTP server.

SuSE Linux 7.1 had the following packages:

  • KDE 2.0.1 and 1.1.2 (similar to KDE 3 and 4 in openSUSE 11.0 and 11.1)
  • Linux Kernel 2.2.18 or 2.4.0 (presented with a choice)
  • Netscape Navigator 4.76
  • GNOME 1.2
