S.u.S.E. Linux 5.3 was released on Thursday, September 10, 1998. It was the first release to have the first final release of KDE and had KDE as its default for the first time. It was preceeded by S.u.S.E. Linux 5.2 and succeeded by SuSE Linux 6.0. The package management system still supported .tar packages, but still RPM by default. S.u.S.E. Linux 5.3 is still downloadable by FTP from here [1].

Some packages included with S.u.S.E. Linux 5.3 were:

  • KDE 1.0
  • Linux kernel 2.0.35
  • Netscape Communicator 4.05
