Empathy is an instant messaging program designed to handle text, voice and video messaging in GNOME. It supports multiple protocols including Google Talk (Jabber/XMPP), MSN, IRC, Salut, AIM, Facebook, Yahoo!, Gadu Gadu, Groupwise, ICQ and QQ.

Empathy is the default instant messaging client on openSUSE 11.3 replacing Pidgin from versions until 11.2.
