The most annoying bugs and their suggested workarounds:

To directly report a bug against openSUSE 11.4, here's a shortcut.

openSUSE 11.4 RC2

  • DVD&NET "Check Installation Media" always reports Checksum wrong (Bug #674609

)

  • Computer does not hibernate when battery reaches critical low percentage (Bug #675405

)..

  • NetworkManager fails to start on bootup. Workaround is to start it from console (Bug #675261

).

  • Regression in Radeon graphics drivers leading to disabled GPU acceleration: Bug #675147


  • Firefox does not ask before closing a window with multiple tabs, even if it is configured to do it (Bug #669231

)

  • The "New Mobile Broadband Connection" wizard in KNetworkManager crashes (Bug #673755

). It is not possible to set up a new mobile broadband device via UI, but it can be used if a configuration already exists, and the config can be created by manually editing under ~/.kde4/ -- see comment # 13 on the bug report.

  • Crash under certain conditions of the "KDE System Settings" application when accessing the "Locale" module. Will probably happen if user preserves her home directory when installing; Requires manual edition of a text file as explained in Bug #671547

  • LiveCD KDE Broken - X desn't start, installer too... (Bug #671414

  • Some application windows like the Firefox or the LibreOffice ones, have a very small size when launched in GNOME + Compiz. (Bug #671592

  • Persistent Live-USB system hangs when installing some additional packages. (Bug #671593

  • certain PCMCIA wlan cards no more supported (Bug #654261

  • X crashes on some hardware when KDE uses window effects (Bug #641297

) - workaround 1: edit ~/.kde4/share/config/kwinrc and change the value of OpenGLIsUnsafe to true. workaround 2: use another windowmanager/desktop ; for NVidia using proprietary driver also helps.

GNOME

  • No panel visible on first boot or when adding a new panel (Bug #637180

). Workaround: restart gnome-panel (by logging out and in again, or with "gnome-panel --replace").
