Stefan Hundhammer <sh@suse.de> a.k.a. HuHa
Bio
- Born 1965-12-28 in Kulmbach, Germany
- Childhood in Marktschorgast[1], a 1600 people village between Kulmbach, Bayreuth and Hof
- Gymnasium Münchberg, graduated with Abitur 1985
- Mandatory military service in the (then West-) German Army 10/85-9/86 (no, that army did not have an official enemy, but all the guns were pointed east back then - I wonder how come...)
- Studied Information Science (technical branch) at FH Nürnberg 10/1986 - 1991, graduated as Dipl.-Inform. (FH)
- Worked for HEITEC Datentechnik, Erlangen (see below) 5/1991-9/1999
- Working for SuSE since 10/1999
Work at SuSE
Member of the YaST2 team since 10/99, since its first version (but not part of the design team, only on the receiving end of its design)
Responsibilities
- YaST2 user interface engine
- libyui, the abstract UI layer (including layout engine)
- The YaST2 Qt UI
- YaST2 package management Qt UI
- NOT the YaST2 NCurses UI
- Usability in YaST2
Previously also:
- Installation workflow (now largely taken over by jsrain@suse.cz)
- Bug distribution for YaST2, installation, and update. This now rotates on a monthly basis with the rest of the YaST2 team.
This is a job that drives everybody crazy on the long term. Everbody who clicked in a YaST2 config module, installed or updated with YaST2 (and what other tools do we have to install or update with?) will put all the blame on YaST2, regardless what the problem really is. So the bug maintainer for YaST2, installation and update basically has to start debugging most problems that get filed as bug reports - just to prove his innocence. Really a fun job.
Open Source
KDirStat, a graphical disk space utility

Pre-SuSE
Worked on document management and (medical) image archiving systems for large university clinics on Unix-type systems (SunOS, Solaris, Linux) with X11 and OSF/Motif for 8+ years at HEITEC Datentechnik, Erlangen.
Wrote most of the user interface stuff there, too - UI engine, lots of OSF/Motif programs, image viewers (X-ray, scanned images, computer tomography images, core spin tomography images).
Other Interests
- Digital photography (currently Sony R1, before that Canon S1-IS, Canon A70)
- Motorbiking (BMW K-1100RS)
- The countryside around Nürnberg, the Fränkische Schweiz
- Wasserwacht http://www.wasserwacht-marktschorgast.de/ (German site)
- PC gaming (mostly flight and other sims)
- Medieval castles (there are plenty of them around here) and events
My morning star, my double-headed battle axe and my mace should be taken into account in discussions with me... ;-)
