  • Where do I live?

I have lived in several places in Germany, but since the beginning of '18 I am back in the town where I grew up, roughly in the middle between Hannover and Kassel.

  • What I like about openSUSE?

What I like most about openSUSE is how well the KDE/Plasma integration is done, and how easy it is to add proper multimedia and gaming capabilities. I mean, as far as I know openSUSE is the only linux flavor where you can add the steam client and the nvidia or AMD drivers right during initial installation.

  • What am I doing at openSUSE?

I'm the maintainer of several packages on OBS, namely XEphem and the bumblebee packages for nvidia drivers.

  • What skills I have?

I've been using Unix/Linux for more than 25 years by now, and working professionally with it since '96.

I've been a trainer and examiner for classes and certifications of a large linux distribution for five years.

I'm a RHCA Level II, and I also hold several other certifications from the UNIX and System Administration area.

Right now I am spending a lot of time with ansible, virtualisation, and container technology.

I just passed the RHCVA certification exam.

  • More to mention:

My first contact with linux was back around '92 when it was just "this sort of unix-like free operating system that you can just grab off the internet." The next thing the lab assistant at my university then said was "I copied it to the fileserver. Guys, go get it, install it at home, and stop annoying me here." (We had to share five sun workstations between 50 people for the practical part of the unix lectures...)

I'm completely anti-religious about the question which Linux flavour, or even which OS in general is best, because the only answer is: "the one that does what you need it to do."

when I'm not mucking around with computers I spend my time with astronomy, computer games, books, my netflix account, out in the woods, at the lake, travelling, and a few other things - but always with my wife.

Yep, that was cheesy - live with it  :)
