Social Media Marketing Plan

social media stuff we should check out for the release

  • Identify social media to use and how to use them:
    • Facebook: Create facebook event, page
    • Twitter: Create daily countdown with a sneak message, hashtag to use
    • LinkedIn,...
  • Handle many languages
  • digg news announcement by as many as possible to get on the digg homepage
  • add announcement to social bookmarking sides like delicio.us and promote it
  • Add announcement to reddit.com
  • Tweet announcement and ask for retweets
  • create metrics to record what we achieved
  • create buzz leading to the launch - as well as buzz around the launch
  • Create custom bit.ly URL for announcement that everybody can use to track clicks through it - and announce it.

Balance mirrors to distribute the download bandwidth Release day Watch the logs of the download redirector and be present on IRC and the mailing lists admin@opensuse.org and mirror@opensuse.org - especially the most popular mirrors sometimes need an adaption of their score to avoid bandwidth overload.
Update mirror list on mirrors.opensuse.org Release day http://mirrors.opensuse.org pages should list the new release.
Update style sheets (and java script) on both static.opensuse.org hosts via svn up Release day
