Custom Device Name

This is my favorite feature ;-)
As you probably know, kernel gives to each ethernet device name "eth" plus incremental number. In fact, this name is not persistent and after reboot may be changed.
That's why we can rename it by udev rule. In udev is this name by default based on MAC address, but we can make it on bus position based.
And what is most important, we can change also the name, of course ;-)
How to do it: Image:Network begin.png

  • run yast lan module
  • select any network device, click "Edit"

  • go into "Hardware" tab and click "Change"

  • with radiobuttons you can change if rule will be MAC address or BusID based
  • when check "Change Device Name" you can change name of interface as you wish ;-)
