The most annoying bugs and their suggested workarounds:

For general information about reporting bugs, see Submit a Bug. During the factory/alpha tests do not report partly translated dialogs or completely missing translations; expect updated translation during the beta tests. Also see the OpenSUSE Localization Guide.

To directly report a bug against openSUSE 11.1, here's a shortcut.

openSUSE 11.1 Beta5

Installation

• Bug #444109: FTP installation is not possible at all (note: installation via http or nfs work)
• Bug #444525: slide show does not work for HTTP installation
• Bug #437735: printers are not installed
• Bug #444519: the i586 DVD does not contain any i686 glibc
• Installation via network on Pegasos2 and Efika is not possible since the initial image does not contain the network drivers (they are available after installation). Use the inst32 files from http://download.opensuse.org/distribution/11.1-Beta5/PPC-HotFix/, boot them with insecure=1

General

• Bug #448092: Flash plugin always segfaulting on x86-64
• Bug #439126: Hibernation does not work with 32-bit PAE kernels
• Bug #432980: Intel: put display to sleep when inactive for a while, can't start again (945GM)
• Bug #444780: Firefox doesn't save and doesn't remember previously saved passwords
• Bug #444747: Mouse doesn't work in VirtualBox, Workaround: sed "s/vboxmouse/mouse/" -i /etc/X11/xorg.conf

KDE

• Selecting KDE 3.5 also installs KDE4 workspace parts and defaults to it, Workaround: choose KDE3 desktop at login manager
• Bug #448094: Crashing Flash plugin causes 100% CPU load in Konqueror
• Bug #444132: PolicyKit-kde crashes, Fix: run online update via YaST once
• Bug #444742: Auto-login on KDE Live-CD doesn't work, Workaround: user=linux, no password
• Bug #444127: kupdateapplet shows error when license is requested
• Bug #445048: kdm asks for root password to shutdown or reboot computer

openSUSE 11.1 Beta4

• Bug #440816: OpenOffice.org 3.0 cannot be started, fix: run online update
• GNOME branding is broken with DVD installs, looks correct on live cds
• GNOME updater will ask for registration, this is broken. Just ignore the question
• KDE updater will not ask for smolt integration (which the GNOME updater should ask for too).
• Bug #439126: suspend to disk on 32bit installations does not work when the PAE kernel is installed.

openSUSE 11.1 Beta3

General

• no x86_64 LiveCD available
• no PPC ISOs available (due to Bug #431945)
• Bug #432732: yast2-x11: Broken xorg.conf written during installation (GeForce 6200TC/7300LE/7300SE/Go 7300, Intel 965G/965GM, Radeon <something>, vmware). Keyboard and mouse may not respond. Workaround: Use Ctrl+Alt+F1 to switch to console, login as root, init 3, sax2 -r, init 5.
• Bug #436949: screensaver crashes gdm
• Bug #437411: su and console login do not work. Workaround: sudo vi /etc/pam.d/common-auth and remove the pam_fp line. We will release a test update.
• Bug #428963: dbus-1 session bus connection policy bug / was gnomesu. We will release a test update.
• Bug #436835: sbl installed and running by default
• Bug #436524: GDM autologin - somewhat broken ...
• XEN does not work [a huge number of bug reports]
• Bug #435965: Live-CD installation asks twice to add users
• Bug #437215: yast2 crash when trying to search for packages during installation

General

openSUSE 11.1 Beta1

General

• Bug #425480, Mail from Zonker: The Intel e1000e driver might have a serious issue with the potential to damage the network card in a way that it cannot be used any longer. Please DO NOT USE openSUSE 11.1 beta 1 on systems with Intel e1000e hardware.
• Bug #427923: Distribution uses openSUSE 11.0 branding
• Bug #427678: Build key ring of openSUSE-build-key missing in initrd. Workaround: hit "Import" on Public GnuPG Key error message, to import openSUSE:Factory OBS Project key.
• Bug #427664: openSUSE-images missing from install media. Note: Installation will be slower. Images will be added for Beta2
• Bug #427692: Desktop selection still offers KDE3. This option will go away in Beta2, and KDE3 will be moved to "other window managers."
• Bug #418585: Error: Failed to detect print queues. Workaround: Just hit OK.
• Bug #427741: 2nd stage install: Error: no network running. Workaround: hit OK
• Bug #427738: Autostarting compiz doesn't work on Thinkpad R51 -- white screen after login in GNOME. Workaround: remove "ati radeon radeonrandr12" from /usr/bin/compiz-manager line 71
• Bug #428127: Grub fails on initial installation -- appears on x86_64 and i586
• Bug #427859: gnome-settings-daemon hangs. This causes error dialogs when starting control center items and causes certain panel applets to not respond. Workaround: mkdir ~/.pulse and relogin
• Bug #427704 "error: libhal_ctx_set_dbus_connection: org.freedesktop.DBus.Error.FileNotFound: Failed to connect to socket /var/run/dbus/system_bus_socket: No such file or directory". Workaround: ignore.

Suspend

• Bug #430235 Suspend to disk does not work. Workaround: "echo splash = n >> /etc/suspend.conf".
• Bug #427052 Suspend to RAM does not wakeup. Workaround: use a newer kernel-of-the-day or boot with "nohz=off".

openSUSE 11.1 Alpha2

General

• image-based installation on x86_64 will not work without problem, as the images on the ISO don't match the RPMs. You'll get errors around "unable to remove pam-config". Workaround: disable image-based installation on x86_64!
• Bootloader: wrong boot order - Failsafe selected as default Bug #413280 Important: Please make sure to not boot into Failsafe -- boot the correct kernel instead!
• Bug #418592: gdm doesn't start on some machines
• Bug #418577: Bootloader: cannot update the dynamic configuration policy
• Bug #418729: Could not find /dev/disk/by-id/scsi-SATA_...
• various AutoYast-related bugs

 * Bug #418574  AutoYast is ManualYast in 2nd stage
 * Bug #418707: Firewall services still enabled although disabled in Autoyast profile

openSUSE 11.1 Alpha1

General

• LiveCD KDE4 Alpha1 freezes in VirtualBox Bug #412007
• Alpha1 bootloader setup broken -- installation unable to boot into 2nd stage Bug #411937
  • --Federico-mena 18:32, 28 August 2008 (UTC) This worked for me to fix the non-bootable MBR: boot into the LiveCD. Open a terminal and become root. Mount the boot partition under /mnt. Go to /mnt/boot. Then, "dd if=backup_mbr of=/dev/sda bs=1 count=512". This restored a bootable MBR. I thought that would then boot me into my old system partition, but when I rebooted, I got dropped into the second-stage installer just fine. WARNING: Don't mess with your boot sector unless you know what you are doing; you could totally screw up your hard drive's data and partition table.
