Video editing/Video edit with Cinelerra
From openSUSE
Contents |
Installation
This product is not available in openSUSE, but there is a rpm [from here]. If you are running openSUSE Version 10.3, you can add the Packman repository in YaST->Software->Community Repositories, then you can just install it through YaST->Software Management.
Beginning
When running it for the first time, one have a screen filled by two video monitors, a file window and a time line. But each windo is separated (not included in an other window), if one close it there is only the destop under it. Only the main window close the application. The others open from the window menu.
Usually, Cinelerra will freeze solid after you close the "Tip Of The Day". See "Constant Crashes" for more info and a possible solution.
Cinelerra can't open the dv files (it reads only the sound)but it opens mpg files. From the doc it seems to read only the video files from the Quicktime format. This is easy to use from Linux, so no problem if the capture is done under Linux.
Screen Capture with Cinelerra
Cinelerra can do screen capturing, and it tends to be more stable than XVidCap when doing so. To do screen capturing, you have to set the Video In record driver to Screencapture.
Constant crashes
It seems very difficult to make Cinelerra work without constant crashes. If you start Cinelerra by running "gdb --batch-silent -ex=run cinelerra" in a terminal, Cinelerra will (hopefully) not crash when you close the "Tip Of The Day" window, and should work properly. You should be able to update any shortcuts to Cinelerra to this so it is no longer neccesary to open a terminal every time you want to open Cinelerra.
