From openSUSE
I was wondering where to put this, and since I put a few thoughts in here, I'll just update these lines as well.
As I just updated: http://en.opensuse.org/Backup_Windows_installed_on_BIOS_RAID_with_SUSE which I wrote 6 months ago.
And, since I am not an expert, I thought I needed someone from the real Suse team to look into this matter.
... Well, may not be urgent anymore. I am reinstalling, but not because anything were wrong with the Vista backup by Linux, but because of MS greed that spawned all the paranoia and true lawlessness of the MS ways.
In essence I had a M$ Vista problem rooted in the "$" part of M$.
I hope the truth by its own virtue promotes Suse as well as Linux in general and testifies for the opacity of MS ways.
Having intensively tried to get support from local MS Croatia outsourced (sic!) personnel for about three working days time (less intensively for other few days earlier as well), and not playing seek-and-hide on my part, I ended up having to verify that they do so by urging them nicely a few times for response, to no avail...
Pls. see http://en.opensuse.org/Backup_Windows_installed_on_BIOS_RAID_with_SUSE for the whole (long) story.
Thanks!
Backup Windows installed on BIOS RAID with SUSE looking at the title seems to be good idea for article, but as it is now, reader would have hard time to get how to do what the title suggest.
I would separate technical part from other problems. Something like: "This procedure will explain how to create backup of operating system installed on BIOS RAID." will be excellent beginning, and write only about technical aspects. History of problem, personal feelings and comments should not go in the article. Sincerely, as it is universal way to create backup, there is no need to mention one specific OS, even in the title.
As an example you can use article Howto setup SUSE as SAMBA PDC with OpenLDAP, DYNDNS and CLAM. The Intro section explains what one HOWTO should be "This is a step by step guide on how to ...". It looks like it is written by someone that has a lot of experience with such instructions.

I am looking into fixing it, mostly in the way you suggest (not that I didn't feel those issues were what was wrong with the howto...), today or at the latest within 48 hours.

While I was reading my howto, I understood for myself that most of what I wrote earlier stands. I only discarded things I wasn't completely sure about (the display things).
Otherwise, I believe the point is exactly in backing up: Windows. And the matters that those who wish to open-source backup Windows need to know MS support-wise and MS trick-wise, so to call it...
In, this is the point, their transition period to Linux. Like mine is not done, since I still have to use Vista for video recording...
Not only, but for many who are even experts the having to live with that bulletproof GUI MS thingy hardly ever ends, because of its ubiquity and Linux users or experts that they be, they are meeting other people, and because like in my case... my hardware is not yet fully, let alone easily supported...
Take a look:
http://linuxtv.org/wiki/index.php/Hauppauge_WinTV-HVR-3000
At a clear point in my HOWTO, I stressed that those not interested in the MS tricks may leave out... Having no time to learn this wiki formating, I also enclosed that point in marks like these
"============================="
Done. No more time for this HOWTO. Not so soon.
Respectfully,
Miroslav Rovis
