Audacity

Under this idea, most any application can be added under Education. Open Office, rosegarden, Kdevelop, etc. Almost any application can be used in an educational setting. This leads to category cluttering. I think its better to categorize as specific as possible. Education applications should include applications that the primary use is education. Applications like parley for example. This application's primary use is to teach oneself another language. Feel free to add it back if you wish. Thank you for contacting me.

Edu subcategories

It would probably be better to put all the Education_* categories categorized under the main Education_Applications category rather than just Applications. We are currently looking into keeping the wiki as organized as possible. Please see openSUSE:Category_Hierarchy for our work on the proposed category hierarchy in which we attempt to keep topics as appropriately and specifically categorized as possible for easy navigation.

Categories

The links you show me are about the wikipedia portal. We have already begun working on an openSUSE portal but the category hierarchy is a secondary project until that gets into place. The portal is not a solution until we can first give new editors direction. We just want a few "official categories" so that new editors do know where to begin and what categories to use to get their articles seen in the openSUSE:Browse page which will be updated. The hierarchy was proposed to have a sane filesystem like structure for articles to be categorized as specific as possible as to avoid pollution and ease navigation for the time. It is not an end all solution. We know that searching is not an option which is why we are working towards making the Portal. This solution requires dedicated editors to keep portals up to date. Everyone has a finite amount of free time so we must first make our editors guides and implement secondary solutions while doing so. Please, if you feel there is some other way of doing things, or would like to know our direction, contact Rajko m and subscribe to the opensuse-wiki mailinglist.--Last2kn0 12:54, 23 April 2008 (UTC)
