From openSUSE

openSuse 10.2 installation (problem) 1. Change to root: a. su enter successful 2. Download the driver by entering:

cd ~/; wget http://us.download.nvidia.com/XFree86/Linux-x86_64/1.0-9631/NVIDIA-Linux-x86_64-1.0-9631-pkg2.run enter successful

3. telinit 3 enter successful 4. su enter successful 5. Run driver installation cd ~/ enter successful chmod +x ./NVIDIA* enter successful sh ./NVIDIA* enter successful

6. The installer will now run, accept the license agreement and accept or agree to all the questions asked. enter not successful – error message is “No precompiled kernel interface was found. To match your kernel; would you like the installer to attempt to d/l a kernel interface for your kernel from the NVIDIA site?” (FTP://download.nvidia.com) YES was selected but the message now is… “No matching kernel interface was found on the nvidia ftp site; this means that the installer will need to compile a kernel interface for your kernel.” OK was selected but a new error appears… Unable to find the development tool cc in your path; please make sure that you have the GCC installed. If GCC is installed see that cc is in the path.

Anyone have an idea on how to resolve the problem? The PC is an AMD 3500 / 1GB RAM / Dual booting with XP Pro. Thanks

You can see NVIDIA page. I added Prerequisites paragraph that lists what has to be installed if you want to compile driver by yourself without errors.
Note that for downloads you don't need to be root user, and it is recommended not to use that account for any online activity.
