About Joe
Joachim Werner (joe@suse.de)
I am working at the Nürnberg location of Novell as the product manager for Enterprise Linux responsible for Europe, Africa, and the Middle East (EMEA).
My second responsibility are Linux in retail and the Novell POS (point of service) Linux products. SUSE Linux runs on many cash registers and POS terminals.
Prior to that I was a project manager in the SUSE R&D team, responsible for improving the "migration experience" from other operating systems to SUSE Linux, contract work SUSE is doing for partners and customers, and the Software Development Kits (SDKs).
I studied Business Administration at the Catholic University of Eichstätt-Ingolstadt. That's when the above picture was taken.
At work in the SUSE office I look like that:
My first encounter with Linux was when I did an extranet project for Bertelsmann. Later I founded my own IT company that developed content management solutions based on Python, Zope, and Linux. I joined SUSE/Novell in January 2004.
Python (especially the PyQt and PyKDE bindings) and Zope still are my favourite open source tools.
