About
My name is Jan-Christoph Bornschlegel.
I joined SuSE in February 2007 in the Autobuild team. At present I work in the Build_Service_Team on imaging topics.
This image shows me enjoying salt water blown in my face at the Lossiemouth lighthouse.
Work
Daily Work
My daily work is most about kiwi and the openSUSE BuildService.
This includes:
- Imaging
- Repository creation
- kiwi development
I started blogging on lizards recently, so you'll find some updates on the state of kiwi-instsource there.
FOSDEM
I did a talk about kiwi on FOSDEM 2008. A schedule and my slides are available at [1]
I was present on the FOSDEM 2008, most of the time at the openSUSE booth or in the openSUSE DevRoom, but also attended some interesting talks (far less than I should have, though). The Crystal Space talk was quite interesting :)
As promised in the previous version I attended FOSDEM 2009 as well and presented a talk about product creation with the build service and kiwi-instsource. The audience was quite large, thank you for your interest!
Again I only attended very few other talks. My personal highlights were H. Peter Anvin's syslinux talk and Theodore Ts'o's ext4 talk
Talks at SuSE
Another version of the FOSDEM kiwi talk, slightly expanded and with a lot more detail and discussion on the kiwi-instsource package. Both the video and the slides are available through the openSUSE wiki at Talks.
hackweek
Project
I participated in the Floor3D project during my ito time. During Hackweek III I worked on a Linux From Scratch system.
State
There was finally some success during hackweek 2. Juergen Weigert wrote an inkscape parser for the floor database allowing users to draw their offices and thus put their room data into the global floor database easily.
I wrote a script which creates a compilable Quake3 map from the floor database' content.
For the floor3d project we finally made a playable map for Quake3 from the Prague office 2nd floor (with minimum manual help). The map (text version for gtkradiant and compiled map) can be downloaded from my export directory
The LFS is not finished yet, it was much more work than I expected. I'll continue working on this, however.
Side effects
Also during hackweek I created a GtkRadiant package for 10.3 in my BuildService home project at my home project or via the search interface at [2]
Plans
Integrate documentation in openSUSE wiki.
Other things
My Nickname
People may wonder why I picked that funny nichname helcaraxe
Well, I picked it long ago as my standard login for some boards shortly after reading The Silmarillion for the second time. This is also my ICQ nickname -- but not only mine -- the number is 275326983.
Boards
plus some music related boards.
Web
I was once domainowner of alqualon.de. There were mainly some files and a presentation I did during University education about ad-hoc networking. If anyone wants to have a look, please contact me directly.
Owes a beer
I owe the following people a beer:
- Jeff Mahoney for helping me with fdisk scripts
- Luc Verhaegen for no special reason
- Mike O'Connor for helping me on freenode.net
