From openSUSE
didn't find a workable solution, waiting for update, using asmn for now..
working fine but you need to compile the kernel
- compiling the kernel makes my laptop work better, faster, and silently
- Easy way to configue is to rename config file default to config and make...
However would like to know how to build a slim kernel...to load faster, but Suse made a lot of progress in speed, so better to keep it that way..
- Suse is the best! Most options and top security if anything fails...tried a lot of others, so I know what I say --as a home user
- Make a home partition so in case of reinstall, you keep your setup. Using gmail space extension under firefox to keep your files safe and sound
- Kopete with green cam, amsn is perfect, but the fonts are so ugly. Counsel: Don't touch any thing to "ameliorate" fonts with Suse, they are perfect, sometimes, it is just a question of setting the right constrast and brightness of your screen or the angle you look at your laptop screen...
- Fonts problems are not fonts problems at all, but the way the screen is inclined, and the local light, etc...By experience, DON'T touch anything to the fonts, Suse does it better than you, at least than me!
- Installing any fancy desktop effects is a lost of time and processing...just change icons if you want, I always disable that bouncing stuff in kde, so enerving...
- Bug with pcmia card, some memory map problem, will look around..it is under suse that this happen, not with other distri...I just plug my pcmia card AFTER the initial boot up procedure
- What's wrong with yast? Nothing, just a bit slow, but so safe, easy and secure! For beginner, it is a breeze, compared to downlod, untar, make, dependencies, etc...Brr!
- Zen with yast? No problems for me, I like to have that "install software" that runs without yast...Download the file first, keep it in your home directory and install from there, either with Konqueror (install with yast), either with Zen (the SECOND icon, they look the same, one is for update, the other for installer
- Canon LBP 800 laser printer...no support, nowhere...grr! I copy my files to usb pen and print from XP, what can you do?
- I only have a 20 gb disk, so to test other systems, had to erase everything, but Suse came out best...I will by an external media hard disk, so cheap, so big...better than taking apart my laptop, I tell you
- Dumped my whole windows XP, bye bye! (but stuck with my printer! A solution?)
- Yast (installing software) can get "nasty" sometimes...after update, don't close up, hangs, etc...so I installed through zipp some YAst tools, and Yast was fine again...
- How I love those rpm deposits...Install is always perfect...
- NO PUBS, NO VIRUS, NO DEFRAG, so linux is slow? 5 hours minimum to clean an infected XP computer, grr!!
- KDE is so good and nice...
- No problem with my dell latitude
- I would enjoy a SLICK, small suse CD as Suse puts quite a lot of apps someimes that I don't need...Why do I have to install X MOTO all the time?
- Very fast boot, what's slowing down are some services at the end, you can disable some and the thing goes zoomy...
- got all the mp3 libdvdcss and win32 librairies without problems...
- What happen to the net install??? somebody knows?
- DON'T write Grup to MBR, brr! And Don't do boot install with another distri that just insist on MBR install, what for? Just follow Suse advice, write to fist active partition...
- GOOD JOB opensue guys! WE DO APPRECIATE!
