User-Mode Linux allows you to usa a virtual machine that may have more hardware and software virtual resources than your actual, physical computer, creating a safe and secure environment for various kernel versions and processes. Your virtual machine is fully configurable, as you can give access to only the hardware access you want it to have. With a correctly configured system, there is no threat to your existing hardware or software setup or system.
