In former SUSE times we used to work on strict internal software solutions that helped us to do the development work of SUSE Linux. Mainly this were tools like Bugzilla.suse.de or a tool for tracking CD production tasks.

Later we were faced with an increasing effort in the area of product maintenance. The high amount of products, multiplied with architectures and package count significantely increased the maintenance efforts: Only the security updates as the most important ones were so many that we urgently needed software support. Unfortunately we were not able to define a clear process for that beforehand so we ended up with the decision that we need a tool that allows us to easily edit and change the implemented business processes driven by the tool. That was the time when we started the SWAMP project that meets these requirements.

Another project that might be of public interest is the Fate system. Fate is a distributed system that handles Feature requests. It gives a communication platform for the involved parties Development, QA, Product Management and Partners.
