Version

It is included in openSUSE as version 2.13.2. The latest on Home page is 2.13.3.

Install

TiMidity is included on openSUSE installation media, so use YaST (or rug, or zypper) to install it.

Configuration

To create sound TiMidity is using collection of sound samples. There are two different types of collections. One is Gravis Ultrasound compatible patch files and the other are SoundFonts.

The openSUSE version comes with set of patches that provide minimal functionality. It is good idea to replace this set with bigger, like freepats that can be downloaded from:

Play MIDI

Start it in graphic mode with

timidity -ia

or

timidity -ig

select midi file to play, and enjoy.

Use it as a Server

Start it with

timidity -iA

and it will act as a server for other MIDI programs.
