Background
Terminal Services is a remote desktop technology commonly used on Microsoft Windows machines and is used for
- Terminal Server environment with many computers connecting to a server. (The traditional Terminal Server)
- Remote Administration of Windows 2000/2003 Server (console + 2 virtual desktops)
- Remote access to Windows XP desktop (console)
The network requirement is a single TCP port between the machine acting as 'server' and the RDP (Remote Desktop Protocol) client, features such as reduced screen resolution, number of colours, can be controlled from the client to provide a responsive experience over slow links such as dial-up.
SUSE Packages
- rdesktop is an opensource Remote Desktop Client Protocol (RDP) Client
- krdc is a KDE remote desktop client for RDP and VNC sessions. All provided sessions in the network are easily browseable via it's SLP support.
- tsclient is a GNOME front-end for rdesktop and is near identical in operation to the standard Windows Remote Desktop Client mstsc.exe, and can even read its saved .rdp settings files. It also supports acting as a VNC client.
