Wiki
Documentation
- Document the new media handling and alternatives (autofs, ivman) in the SDB.
- Document the rpm-md+ format we use in the 10.1 update directory. Please ask on the factory mailinglist if you have any questions about it. Part of it, the signing, is explained on Secure_Installation_Sources.
Yast documentation
Yast documentation is short. Of course many pages are straightforward, but for the others we have to write instructions.
The opening page (control center) there is probably no need to be documented. For the modules we could make a starting page with sub pages for option pages if applicable.
Here is an example of the proposed layout:
If known, it would be very useful to add the name of the yast module found in rpm list. A copy in each language with the good images is a plus.
Examples of openSUSE usage
The wiki should not document only the internals of the distribution, but also the USE of it.
Answers to question:"How do I set openSUSE for ... ?", can be motivating factor to give it a test run. The most common usage is:
- Internet communication mail, newsgroups, IRC , Instant Messaging,
- Internet browsing, reading articles, listening music, watching movies
- photo classification, retouch, graphic creation,
- desktop and/or server(s) for home or small office network
- a library for your collections of music, books, antiques, stamps or coins
- a learning or motivational tool to re-ignite, engage, and encourage your innate curiosity
Currently not addressed tasks for the openSUSE distribution
Implement helix engine in gstreamer
A support of the helix engine in gstreamer would be nice to have. It would support wma and mp3 via one engine in amaroK or banshee without the need to switch the player engine. Please contact mailto:coolo@suse.de for further informations.
Jobs around the Build Service
We do look for help with our Build Service tools. Please ask or submit your ideas around the build service at the mailto:opensuse-buildservice+subscribe@opensuse.org mailing list.
Mirrors
Talk to every mirror admin you come across not only to mirror ftp://ftp.suse.com, but http://ftp.opensuse.org, also. If you convinced them, add the mirror to the respective mirror pages in the download section.
Projects
We need volunteers to lead projects, give shape, define tasks, be a focal point of project development. Loose groups it is how open source development works, but every has few individuals that give direction to the project.
GNOME-specific Tasks
If you're interested in helping with the GNOME effort in openSUSE, please take a look at the GNOME-specific tasks on the GNOME Tasks page and jump right in.
Employment at Novell
Novell is constantly looking for skilled employees within SUSE R&D to work on openSUSE. Have a look at our career pages (Germany, Czech Republic, International) for more information.
