Talk:YaST Phone Answering Machine

From openSUSE

Hello,

I am REALLY interested in this product and would like to get it working on my Suse machine. I am moving from Crashbox (Windows) to Linux. On my Windows machine I am using it as my home phone answering machine and fax service. Currently that is the last application stopping me from moving 100% to Linux from Windows.

Where can get the man page or a manual for this application. Unfortunately the documentation only tells me what I already know. It does not tell me how to set it up to answer, how to configure the greeting, how to set my fax ID, how set the message length... and much more.

Any help would be appreciated, Thanks :->

AFAIK, this module is a part of CapiSuite, and is used for ISDN setups. You are using it with a standard phone line, correct?

I will look into this more later, and come up with a solution for you (while at the same time, probably writing up this article). --CuCullin 10:31, 3 Jan 2006 (MST)

Ooops, my bad. I did not know it was for ISDN services. That would explain why I kept getting ISDN modem references though.

Yes, that is correct, I am attempting to use it with POTS (Plain Old Telephone System/Service) as a SOHO PBX. It would be most appreciated if a POTS option was available. If a solution can not be found (laws of supply and demand) would it work with a Digium ( http://www.digium.com/ ) card?

I want to set up a small PBX (Postoffice Box/Branch Exchange) system for my home. Is VOCP my best option then? I understand that VOCP would not be with in your support realm and I can get it going on my own.

Sorry for the delayed answer... asterisk with a digium card would be my recommendation. If this is a standalone box, you may wish to use Asterisk@Home, a conveniently pre-configured asterisk-oriented distro. It will be much easier to bring up than adding asterisk to a SUSE pc. --CuCullin 09:08, 17 Jan 2006 (MST)
