I have some remarks on the following section: Visibility of the applet icon

• I propose a third mode:
  Icon is invisible as long as there are no updates and shows up when updates are available (in the notification area). A show-never mode or show-always mode can then be an option of this applet.

• Icons:
  If circular blobs are used, the emblems inside them must have enough contrast, to conform at least the GNOME or Tango guidelines. For visually impaired people it might be hard to distinguish the modes of the icon, if the shapes are too similar.
