What do you do if a new printer is not automatically detected?

I have followed the instructions but when adding a new printer there is no new printer detected. Can anyone suggest what might have gone wrong or is missing?

How to add a printer

follow all the instrunctions in the article, at the end start your browser (Konqueror or Firefox is the same) and type:

http://localhost:631/admin/

here you can view the detected printer, now add the printer, set vendor=generic and select the PostscriptColor.ppt

Using CUPS-PDF.ppd give blank page

Using /usr/share/cups/model/CUPS-PDF.ppd in MAKE/MANUFACTURER FOR CUPS-PDF give a blank page when printing (at least on 11.0). Instead when using Generic -> Generic CUPS-PDF Printer (en) everything works perfectly.

Any feedback is welcome.
