First, Thanks to Klaus Singvogel for all the details to get started. Since my recent Compaq Presario has the exact same Broadcom BCM4318 wireless card, I was encouraged to follow this through.
Loading the .inf file on my system was not good enough (SLED 10.1). I happened to read the .inf contents and it refers to a BCMWL5.SYS file, so I copied that file in the same folder the bcmwl5a.inf was in, reloaded the driver via ndiswrapper and Voila! The Blue Light comes on - Baby! My Compaq shows a backlit blue antenna when Wireless is afoot.
The rest is as Klaus details. Now I gotta figure out how to get on 5 of my neighbors networks that show up...
