Talk:Installing Sun's Java on SUSE Linux

From openSUSE

WHY? WHY? WHY? Java Packaging in SuSE is a HEADACHE

I do not like the "etc/alternatives" packaging of Java that apparently was created with the SuSE 9.x releases. I don't know of anyone that actually needs to keep alternate versions around.

Until I saw this post today, I had NO idea a utility existed for adding a new verison of java into the system gracefully. Instead, I futzed aorund mesing with the sym link setup on my own after addind java 1.5xxxx recently. GEEEZ!

Why can't we just do away with this nonsense entirely and go back to installing java without all this nonsense?

I cannot get this to work. all im looking for is to get java to work with fire fox. so i can play pogo.it seems that no mater what linux dist i use i have no luck i have gone through fedora core, frespire and this. I am a linux idiot apperently help me im sinking
