Talk:How to install openSUSE on software RAID

From openSUSE

RAID1 is fine when both disks are on the same controller, as it will still protect one from a hard disk failure (which is certainly more common than controller failure). But performance will be better with disks on separate controller channels. --Pbleser 07:00, 18 September 2006 (UTC)

This would be fine to include in article, or better on subpage, that will discuss with more elaboration what cases are covered. Don't be shy :-) --Rajko M 09:04, 18 September 2006 (UTC)

I think a discussion of booting from a RAID setup is missing. I just tested a system by failing one of the drives and while I can boot from the boot drive booting from the second drive does not work. What are some good practices for this?

-How to extend an array to include more drives. This probably would be another documentation, and if I find one I will link it and edit this documentation.

-How to report bad disk checks and SMART activities to email, or provide an appropriate report.

-How to find the labels of existing arrays with fdisk or provide links to associated documentation.

-Links to associated documentation on how to fix arrays when adding new drives causes changes in drive numbers.

-Status Check on rebuild (cat /proc/mdstat) was reported for Suse 6 in an article I found.
