Talk:Frontpage redesign/List of Proposal Pages
From openSUSE
Having a Hub is in my opinion necessary now that many localised wikis exists. be redirected to the english page from opensuse.org or www.opensuse.org is simply not fair for non english readers.
Having a non wiki main page could be very interesting if underneath we could link to non wiki elements.
For exemple we could have links from the main page to a cvs/svn account for file sharing, to the build service, and of course to the wiki as "documentation".
A wiki is mostly (only?) documentation when openSUSE is more than that now.

- Background graphic are a plague, have you ever realised how much slower and much more cpu web site using background image take (especially static one, don't say change browser this behavior is the same everywhere) --John_Arson 16:09, 24 June 2006 (UTC)
- The previous title "Simple Background Graphic' was misleading for many people. The idea is better described as splash for the portal (www.opensuse.org or opensuse.org) to the language wikis. Portal is loaded once and probably never again by the same visitor. Example is Wikipedia language portal. --Rajko M 11:46, 25 June 2006 (UTC)
I started to put this on another page (http://en.opensuse.org/Frontpage_redesign/List_of_Proposal_Pages) , but decided it fit here better.
Simple Front Page Portal Design
Using the opensuse.org and the entrance page to many languages each with their own wiki. A simple page that requires no one to know a specific language, clicking a flag would be pretty self explanatory, in any language. The image above is just my "artistic rendition" ... the flags would of course need to be corrected. Crouse 5 July 2006
No, it's not. Some countries have several langages (think of India :-) and some langages are common to many countries (think of english :-). So better give the name of the language, is the original character set (look at the translation links on the front page) jdd 06:19, 6 July 2006 (UTC)
