From openSUSE

In the text-mode of YaST, you can move the cursor with the arrorbuttons, only in the first mask. After that you have to use the 'tab'-button.

It would be nicer, when you can move the cursor in every screen with the arrow - buttons.

Some Ideas for Yast - Installing:

- While YaST is installing, why you can't play a mini game, like in Debian?

- While it install the packages, I can configure that packages, that is already installed, instead of waiting, til the whole installation is ready to configure them (like XOrg, Hardware and so on)

- While installing a package, you can start to download the next one, instead to wait til you are finish ...

- I miss one configure option, which can try to repeat x-times automaticly, when the packages are not available, so I can let the computer installing at night, without to worry, that one package is not available and the whole installation is break up, because of this.

What happened to LOADLIN ?

I think I should be able to rewrite another version of this famous application that, in the past, let you boot linux kernel from dos prompt after the reboot. It was so easy to use that I couldn't understand why loadlin has been abandonned. To boot linux kernel you just have to type c:\> loadlin vmlinuz root=/dev/sda5 and it was up !!

Do you think it is still possible to have a way to adapt loadlin for xp or vista (code source) ? I think is a good idea for those reasons:

  • for those which do not want to make windows and linux cohabitate (not want to use LILO or GRUB multiboot) on local hard disks and use external devices as usb hard drives to have your linux system movable from location to location...
  • you won't have to disconnect your local hard disks to avoid having the MBR modified by LILO or GRUB (even if you told yast2 to modify the MBR of the usb mass storage device lol) and being forced to reboot with the install dvd and do a MBRFIX to restore it.

Those points seem to me to be the most motivating to get myself involved in the programming of such a program. I waisted hours to try to understand how come this kernel won't boot on this usb hard disk that it revealed it would be important to me to help those have had same bad experiences. It may work, there is no way out. This is now for monthes that I browsed the internet to try to get a solution, I found lot of things but none of them solved it. I think this is unacceptable to be forced to use a bootable cd or dvd to have your linux working, and for my personal experience: it never worked better. This is because I have not so much time to dig deeper but I tried all the advices given step by step and none solved the boot issue, I think it is time now to say: that is not working with LILO or GRUB I need another solution... and I won't be the only one in this situation...

Software groups

I think it could be useful to create software groups, like in Ubuntu and Mandriva software managers. Like it is in the main menu with Graphics, Games, Internet, etc. Because when you are looking for an application doing a couple of things, and you have no idea about its name, it's quiet difficult.
