Cxy28 -- Please stop putting beryl-xgl around everywhere instead of beryl. The first one checks Xgl before anything (instead of using the usual method), and of course with "-xgl" around it confuses the user as it implies that you'd need to be running beryl under xgl, when you do not.
Rainerklier -- good howto with xsessions, but it's seriously big overkill. Particularly when there are well-working instructions for both GNOME and KDE. Trying to keep the entry simplistic, so that it's accessible for new users, and trying to keep it informational while not bloated.
~ Apokryphos
Apokryphos -- the currently shown instructions are not that well working. the kde-autostart-solution does not work very well! you have heavy timing issues. if not everything runs in correct order and in time (and that can not be guaranteed) then the beryl-autostart with the .desktop file in the .kde/Autostart-folder will fail! i myself switched to the solution i described just because of the kde-autostart-solution was not working for me. the xsession-solution works. and it is a solution kde-users and gnome-users can use.
~ Rainerklier
hussam_al -- Why do you need to add beryl to the Autostart option along with beryl-manager ? Isn't beryl-manager enough by itself ?
~ Hussam al
Rainerklier -- it's a very long solution (overkill, I believe) with heavy-editing when we should keep these instructions easy-to-access for new users. There is no reason why the time should every be mucked up with ~/.kde/Autostart. It runs in a specific order as is given by startkde.
Hussam al -- we need that added in just in case, because beryl-manager does not necessarily have to start up beryl, it only has to start up the manager. If you change beryl-manager to use kwin, then when you relogin beryl-manager will use that.
Xnull -- A few problems with your method. (i) it's system-wide; instructions should be user-specific for a user's changes. (ii) just exporting beryl-manager will not always work! See note just above. --Apokryphos 01:47, 28 December 2006 (UTC)
Incorrect link and what is a good videocard
The link in this line ATI card: Install the new ATI driver for Xorg 7.2. Check here (here) is outdated, it refers to a page without information.
Something that I miss: what is a good card to buy if one has to buy a videocard to get this to work. How much memory does the card need at least? Is 64 MB sufficient, or should be more? Is it okay that the videocard shares the computer memory, or should that be prevented? --Rbos 10:28, 29 December 2006 (UTC)
Hm, I really don't know about ATI cards, but updated the link to ATI now. The best cards for Beryl/Xgl are anything in NVidia's 6xxx series. Specifically, 6600 and above are really great. But this is all mentioned on the wiki for Xgl. Perhaps we could add this in to the Beryl entry; hm. --Apokryphos 23:45, 29 December 2006 (UTC) Originally the link was to ATI_Driver; changed into ATI. --Fdekruijf 12:16, 16 May 2007 (UTC)
The article states that one needs a Geforce 5 or better, yet on the beryl page I found that it actually works with a Geforce 3 or better and I do run beryl with a Geforce 4. So even if not all effects are available, the text should be changed to Geforce 3 or better, or > Geforce 2. --Rabauke 14:06, 16 February 2007 (UTC)
Frames
If reader has to count frames to see where text belongs than benefit will disappear.
For most of people 2 frame lines are maximum that is recognized without counting, and 3rd frame will be disturbance. --Rajko M 03:45, 10 May 2007 (UTC)
