Talk:Atheros ndiswrapper

From openSUSE

The Atheros driver used to work out of the box in SUSE 10.0, but was removed in 10.1 because the Linux kernel developers do not allow that binary drivers are used together with the Linux kernel. Unfortunately, there is still no clean "abstraction layer" with a frozen ABI that would allow 3rd party developers to release binary-compatible drivers that do not require re-compilation every time the kernel is upgraded.

The removal of the madwifi driver and a stable kernel api are completely unrelated. madwifi is just not GPL compatible. Also there won't be a stable kernel api and the kernel developers have communicated that pretty cleary.--Msmeissn 08:36, 19 May 2006 (UTC)
