Talk:Amarok

From openSUSE

Hello,

I have no idea how this wiki-thing works. Therefore I start a discussion here.

About line 21; "Support for SQLite and MySQL databases ensuring fast collection access".

There's no support voor MySQL and PostgreSQL built in the OpenSuSE or SuSE release of Amarok. The version of Guru on the other hand has a support for these databases built in. I suggest that the text will be changed in;

21 Release from SuSE only supports SQLite databases ensuring fast collection access;

And adding point 22;

22 PostGreSQL and MySQL support are available in the release from the Guru repository, see Additional YaST Package Repositories for more information about repositories.

Then 22 will become 23, 23 will become 24 and so on.

Greetings,

I just saw this.... I agree the note should be added, so I did it, but as a subset of 21. --CuCullin 13:35, 12 Dec 2005 (MST)

In order to make MusicBrainz work properly, one should install the MAD and Libtunepim-mad packages from the packman repository.

Backports?

I see that Amarok 1.4 is available on the repos server as a 10.1 backport, but only with the xine backend... When will amarok-helix get backported?

The amarok-helix package has been dropped for legal reasons. --Beineri 07:02, 10 August 2006 (UTC)

OpenSUSE, Amarok & Xine

First of all, if you are using openSUSE you will not be able to play MP3s using Amarok because openSUSE comes with reduced version of Xine Library (due to Copyright issues).

To play MP3s with Amarok player GStreamer can be used, however, I haven't found any up-to-date plug-ins for Amarok to support GStreamer. The alternative would be to uninstall the current Xine library and install a full version of Xine library (the package is called libxine1, I believe). --SnegoviK 18:06, 25 October 2006 (UTC)

New iPod Classic media corrupted by Amarok

When I plugged my iPod Classic in, Amarok detected it, and could see the files I had stored as a USB disk, but wiped the music library (put on with iTunes). I will look for a fix and post if I find anything.

Paul.

Update:

Problem seems to be with later generation of iPod. Using YamiPod I was able to copy music back to my PC (only the iTunes database was corrupted), then restore iPod using restore feature in iTunes.
