On suse there is a special frontend to apt called apt ;)
With this frontend apt you can do everything you can that you can do with apt-get, apt-cache and apt-config.
Try man apt.
The apt autoupdate can be switch on using yast! Launch yast -> system -> system config editor Somewhere in that list apt autoupdate is mentioned, it's it the same location where you is controlled I believe.
