After extracting the package see file:///usr/share/doc/packages/trac/README.SUSE.html for more details.

Installation Sources

You can add installation sources to YaST as described in this document. If you installed SuSE using CDs, CDs will be listed as a source in list of installation sources. If you don't want to use CDs, you can remove them and add the following basic repositories:

Version:
10.1
Protocol: HTTP Host: download.opensuse.org Directory: /distribution/SL-10.1/inst-source/
(See that you do not already have a inst-source added)
Protocol: HTTP Host: download.opensuse.org Directory: /distribution/SL-10.1/non-oss-inst-source/

A complete list of all repositories is available at Additional_YaST_Package_Repositories if you need more packages not provided officially by SuSE.

Downloads

BEFORE YOU INSTALL READ THIS: You probably want to read about the Most Annoying Bugs.

Please read Released Version how to download.

The download version of openSUSE only contains open source software (OSS). If you need additional packages, use the following package repositories.

To add one as an installation source, start YaST, go to Change Source of Installation, and press Add. There, first select the protocol and, on the next page, enter the server and the directory as listed below. Make sure that the directory matches your version.

Contents

Please use mirrors instead of ftp.suse.com.
The ftp.suse.com has limited bandwidth and although the number of simultaneous users is limited, connection can be slow.

Official And Proprietary Packages

Below you will find the openSUSE or SUSE Linux official repositories. They contain all the available packages in these distributions. Also the ones that are not on the downloadable CDs and DVD, but are in the boxed distribution. A separate repository contains proprietary components, such as Adobe Acrobat Reader, RealNetwork RealPlayer, Sun Java Runtime Environment (JRE), and Macromedia Flash Player. You can install them during or after installation by adding the proper repository to the installation sources in YaST. Sometimes also repositories with sources (oss and non-oss) and debug versions are available.

Desktop Enviroments

KDE

  • Current KDE and application versions can be installed for released distributions. The directories are as follows:
Image:susemini.png
Version:
10.2
Image:susemini.png
Version:
10.1
Image:susemini.png
Version:
10.0
Image:susemini.png
Version:
9.3

Legend: 1 Does not require an update to latest KDE because it's compiled against the distribution KDE version.

GNOME

  • Current versions of mozilla.org projects are available on a mirror in the directory /projects/mozilla (use 10.0 for stable releases and experimental/10.0 for pre-releases)
  • Various other applications can be also found in the openSUSE Build Service repositories.

Additional YaST Package Repositories

There are several other YaST package repositories available. They commonly provide software that is not supported or is just newer than the official openSUSE packages. For a list of these repositories, refer to Additional YaST Package Repositories.
