This article should help to facilitate logo creation. It's intended audience is the graphic artist(s) who may contribute logo design(s). It describes the project concept, initial ideas for logo, and requirements.
Logo/Icon Concept
The logo should reflect the project's purpose. The project's concept is described elsewhere on this site (see Squeegee/Ideas). In short, the project seeks to create a content filtering solution for openSuse. That vision is captured in the project name, "squeegee," the tool used to clean windows.
Initial ideas for the logo elements, then, are focused around that image of a squeegee:
- a squeegee that's discernible as a squeegee
- computer screen
- squeegee swiping computer screen
Some additional possibilities we've played with:
- the suse gecko holding a squeegee in its tail (that's a little tongue-in-cheek, eh)
- a simple squeegee image.
Requirements
The logo will be used both as a program logo (in YaST, on a Suse Desktop, etc.) and a as project web page logo. So, scaled images are important. Please note the following ideas around requirements:
- Multiple sizes (program launch icon, web page logo)
- Proper formats (YaST friendly and web-site friendly)
- Preference for simple, clean look and feel such as that found in the Gnome Tango theme and the KDE4 Plasma look and feel.
