SaX2 ( is a YaST module used for configuring the X11 graphics system. It comes with an easy to use GUI and automatically will configure you desktop. SaX2 is also customizable and can be used to setup advanced features such as multiple monitors or touchscreens with ease. It also will automatically setup proprietary drivers from ATI or Nvidia automatically if they are installed on your system.

Be careful if you change the keyboard! Don't forget to test the new layout on the test line, before you accept the keyboard change. If you have selected an invalid keyboard layout, your keyboard can be nonfunctional after a restart and then you can't log in to your account(s)!


It is also a very great command line tool! In case an installation doesn't start the X server correctly, or if a new update crashes X, you can recover by going to a console.

CTRL+ALT+F4 for example

You need to run SaX2 as root using

su

and then by entering

sax2

Specific resolutions, Horizontal and Vertical Sync Rates, and many other options can be set manually from the Console or Terminal.
