SDB:Selection Missing from Installation CD (SUSE LINUX 9.1 Personal)

From openSUSE

Version: 9.1 Personal

Contents

Symptom

You want to use one of the following functions included in the installation CD, but no suitable selection is displayed:

  • Repair Installed System
  • Boot Installed System

Cause

Due to a bug in the installation script, this selection is skipped and the Mode cannot be switched.

Solution

  1. Boot your system with the installation CD of SUSE LINUX 9.1 Personal.
  2. Select your language by pressing [F4] in the first selection dialog.
  3. Use the arrow keys to select Installation from the available options. If the support desk at SUSE LINUX AG has recommended you use a different option, choose it instead. Do not confirm this selection with Enter yet.
  4. Type the parameter "suse_update". This input is displayed on the screen in the Boot Options section.
  5. If necessary, use the key [F2] to adjust the screen resolution.
  6. Confirm the installation settings with Enter.

Following a system check and the preparation of an installation proposal, you should be able to select the above-mentioned functions.

Note

SUSE LINUX 9.1 Personal is not meant for updating from a previous version, even if the corresponding option is available by way of this workaround. Although an update is feasible from a technical point of view, it is not supported by SUSE LINUX AG.
